Third annual Cape Fear Book Festival puts spotlight on supporting local authors

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Local authors, writers and fans of literature will have a chance to learn and connect this fall as part of the third annual Cape Fear Book Festival.

Festival events officially kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 20 at the New Hanover County Arboretum and Cooperative Extension with a visit from North Carolina author Georgann Eubanks. Organized by the non-profit Friends of the Library, this event is free to the public, and will include a presentation, Q&A session and book signing. Earlier this year, Eubanks celebrated her sixth book with UNC Press, continuing to capture the history, ecology and scenery of the Tar Heel state.

From November 21-22, the schedule moves to the New Hanover County Main Library (230 Grace Street, Suite A) in downtown Wilmington, starting with a series of discussions and panels on storytelling, publishing and marketing as part of Saturday’s WriteOn! Workshops. On Sunday, the library will then host the Cover-to-Cover Book Sale from 1-4 p.m., giving the public a chance to engage with local authors as they find their next favorite book.

“Each year, this festival grows, as more people take the opportunity to participate in our workshops, helping them refine their work and bring their stories to a wider audience,” Librarian and event coordinator Christine Ingram said. “Sunday’s book sale is always an anticipated showcase as so many people are excited to come out and support our area vendors by checking out their hard work. It is truly a community-focused showcase everyone looks forward to.”

Established in 2024, the Cape Fear Book Festival is organized by the New Hanover County Public Library and the Friends of the New Hanover County Public Library, giving aspiring writers access to resources that can support their efforts, while also helping connect local writers to a wider community. Saturday’s workshops start at 8:30 a.m., featuring insights from industry professionals like authors Sayantani Dasgupta, Anna Ouchchy and Nina de Gramont, along with HarperOne senior editor Angela Guzman.

Sunday’s Cover-to-Cover Book Sale, which is open to the public and free to attend, will showcase works of more than 60 vendors, including authors, artists and literary-themed craftsmen.
